Q8 | Do I need a BOAT LICENSE too? THIS IS THE "BOAT" ENDORSEMENT ON YOUR DRIVER'S LICENSE BY DMV. |
A 8 | SHORT ANSWER. ON TIDAL WATER(anything that rises and falls each day) NO. In-land lakes- YES. A boat license (ISSUED BY NJ DMV) is a separate document from a boat safety certificate and is in addition to he NJSP Card and is required for operation on non-tidal water (water where there is no tidal drop and eventually connects to the Atlantic) in the State of New Jersey. The boat license is not a substitute for a boat safety certificate, it is an additional requirement. On non tidal waters in the State of New Jersey you must need both, a boat safety certificate card and a boat license on your DL. To obtain a boat license, go to your nearest NJ Motor Vehicle Commission Facility. Persons must present their NJ Boat Safety Certificate (or temp) with them to to DMV to apply for a boat license. BOTH are required during no-tidal vessel(PWC too) operations.
